Pig Earns A Whopping £20,000 For Painting
After being saved from a slaughterhouse, Picasso now holds the record for most expensive painting sold by an animal, at a whopping £20,000.
Pigcasso’s big break came after she was rescued by an animal shelter in South Africa, where her new owner, Joanne Lefson, decided to try to keep her entertained.
She began giving the pig various toys, knowing that pigs are rather intelligent animals, but the pig’s fondness for painting shone through when the only things it didn’t eat and destroy were paint brushes.
The pig was soon using the brushes to paint on a canvas set up in her stall.
Five years later, ‘Pigcasso’ is creating artwork that is being sold all over the world, and has created over 400 works of art, with one piece fetching as much as £20,000.
The painting, named ‘Wild and Free’, was bought by a German buyer named Peter Esser.
To all those aspiring artists out there, just remember, if a pig can bring home the bacon, then so can you.
Also, if you’re having trouble selling your artwork, pretend it was painted by a pig — as long as you don’t mind a farm animal taking credit for your artistic abilities.
If you’d rather not have a pig do your artwork, the Daily Mail reports that the previous record price for an animal-created painting was set in 2005 by a chimp named Congo, who paid £14,000.
